This electric SUV is smashing records in Europe—Škoda Elroq tops 100,000 orders faster than anyone expected

Date :
If you thought electric SUVs were just slowly inching their way into the mainstream, think again. Škoda’s latest EV— the Elroq— has just raced past 100,000 orders, smashing expectations across Europe and adding a very bright spark to the company’s celebrated SUV history.

Four Million SUVs and Counting

Let’s rewind. Since the introduction of the Yeti back in 2009, Škoda has produced more than four million SUVs worldwide—a milestone worth a celebratory honk or two. The brand’s SUV family now numbers seven models, running the gamut from the compact Kylaq (tailored for India) all the way up to the robust Kodiaq, with the all-electric Enyaq and the star of the hour, the Elroq, capping off the lineup. Today, SUVs account for over half of all Škoda sales—proving that their formula of comfort, space, and versatility wins over drivers around the globe.

The Road to the Elroq

Škoda’s SUV journey started modestly with the Yeti in 2009. The adventure continued in style with the Kodiaq in 2016, Karoq in 2017, and Kamiq in 2019. The electric Enyaq joined the party in 2020, further broadening the brand’s eco-friendly options. Recently, two new models designed specifically for the Indian market—the Kushaq and Kylaq—entered the lineup. Yet, it’s the newly unveiled Elroq, revealed only in 2024, that is making headlines by surpassing 100,000 orders in record time.

Meet the Elroq: Compact Powerhouse, Surprising Space

The new Škoda Elroq is the fully electric sibling of the popular Karoq, built on the same MEB platform as the Enyaq. What makes the Elroq special? For starters, it’s 17 centimeters (nearly 7 inches) shorter than its bigger brother, but it cleverly keeps the same wheelbase. Translation: you enjoy plenty of interior room without having to squeeze into tight parking spots. The spacious feeling continues in the back seat, and the trunk offers a generous 470 liters (that’s over 16.6 cubic feet)—expanding to a whopping 1,580 liters (almost 56 cubic feet) with the seats folded down. When it comes to cargo space in its class, the Elroq is a heavyweight contender.

In the Netherlands, the Elroq starts at €34,990 (about $38,500 at spring 2024 exchange rates). Standard features aren’t sparse either: you get a large 13-inch touchscreen, automatic climate control, and a reversing camera. Step up to the Business Edition, and you’ll enjoy extras like heated seats and LED ambient lighting. For those with a sporty streak, the Sportline and RS trims serve up bigger wheels, a sport suspension, and bolder styling.

Sustainability that Hits Home

Škoda is putting the pedal to the metal on sustainability with the Elroq. The cabin is built using recycled materials, including repurposed fishing nets and PET bottles. Buyers get to pick from four different interior themes—Studio, Loft, Lodge, and Suite—striking their personal balance of “green” credibility and luxury.

A Global Success Story—And Ambitions for More

SUVs aren’t just a European phenomenon for Škoda. In markets like India, models such as the Kylaq and Kushaq are developed and manufactured locally to meet local preferences. And in 2024, Škoda added new assembly facilities in Kazakhstan and Vietnam—clearly, there’s no slowing this SUV surge.

The brand isn’t resting on its (very modern) laurels. Looking ahead, Škoda plans to unveil a larger electric SUV in 2026, offering seating for seven and based on the Vision 7S concept. And for those looking to enter the EV world without breaking the bank, next year the more affordable Epiq will round out Škoda’s electric lineup at the entry level.

In short, the Elroq is more than just another electric SUV on the block—it’s a clear signal that Škoda knows how to break records and, more importantly, how to stay ahead of the curve (and the competition) in the fast-changing world of electric mobility.
